SolarTaxi

SolarTaxi is a Ghanaian e-mobility company providing locally assembled electric vehicles and ride-hailing services powered by clean energy.

Introduction

SolarTaxi is a Ghanaian e-mobility company founded in 2018 by Jorge Appiah. The company designs, locally assembles, and distributes electric two-wheel (e-2Ws) and four-wheel (e-4Ws) vehicles for transportation and delivery services. Notable clients include e-commerce companies like Jumia and Bolt, which utilize SolarTaxi’s e-2Ws for deliveries in Accra. In March 2022, SolarTaxi launched Africa’s first electric-car-only ride-hailing app, offering customers a climate-friendly transportation option at competitive rates. The service began in Accra, focusing on areas like East Legon and Airport, with plans to expand further.
SolarTaxi is also developing solar charging stations to support its electric vehicles and plans to introduce the SolarCampus app, enabling university students to access e-transportation services and make purchases delivered by e-bike. The company has received funding from Persistent, an African climate venture builder, to scale its offerings and expand operations across Ghana.
